Minimal production in Week 8
Vidal rushed six times for 16 yards in Sunday's 26-8 win over the Saints.
Analysis: Vidal played just 11 of the Chargers 66 offensive snaps Sunday, while starter J.K. Dobbins handled the majority of snaps (54) at running back against the Saints. Vidal has totaled just 13 rushes for 37 yards in three games, operating as the Chargers No. 2 back with Gus Edwards (ankle) on injured reserve. Edwards could return in Week 10, though there has been no update on whether he'll be ready by then. With that said, Vidal holds little fantasy value at this stage, especially with Edwards…read more

Four touches against Cardinals
Vidal rushed three times for 10 yards while also catching his lone target for nine yards in Monday's 17-15 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Vidal played just 18 of the Chargers 66 offensive snaps Monday, operating as the No. 2 running back behind J.K. Dobbins. The latter dominated in playing time (45 snaps) while also handling 17 touches on his way to 66 total yards from scrimmage. Vidal should continue to play the backup role with Gus Edwards (ankle) on injured reserve, though Dobbins should keep getting the majority of the workload out of the Los Angeles backfield.

Scores first career touchdown
Vidal carried the ball four times for 11 yards and also caught both of his targets for 40 yards and a touchdown in the 23-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
Analysis: Vidal's touchdown came on a brilliantly schemed wheel route in the first quarter, as the rookie caught a perfectly thrown ball in stride for a 30-yard touchdown. Otherwise the 2024 sixth-round pick was held in check as J.K. Dobbins saw a large workload (25 carries, two targets) in the first game since Gus Edwards (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. It's at least encouraging to see Vidal push aside Hassan Haskins (two carries, five yards), who had been playing over the rookie on game days to…read more

Poised to enter backfield mix
With Gus Edwards (ankle) having landed on IR ahead of Week 6 action, per Kris Rhim of ESPN, Vidal is on track to to be active Sunday against the Broncos.
Analysis: Now that Edwards is slated to miss at least four contests, Vidal -- who's been inactive for the Chargers' first four outings thus far -- is poised to enter the team's backfield mix Sunday, alongside Hassan Haskins and top back J.K. Dobbins. It remains to be seen how much work Vidal sees in his looming NFL regular-season debut, but with Edwards sidelined and Dobbins' injury history in mind, Vidal, a 2024 sixth-rounder, is worthy of roster consideration for those with the flexibility to add him…read more

Another healthy scratch
Vidal (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Analysis: The rookie sixth-round pick has yet to suit up for a regular-season game. Gus Edwards and Hassan Haskins will provide backfield depth for the Chargers on Sunday behind J.K. Dobbins.

Inactive Sunday
Vidal (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Vidal -- who was also inactive last week -- could find himself in the Chargers' backfield mix in time, but for now the 2024 sixth-rounder is off the weekly lineup radar. Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins and Hassan Haskins are slated to handle the Chargers' RB duties in Week 2.

Inactive Sunday
Vidal (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Raiders.
Analysis: Vidal could find himself in the mix down the road, but the 2024 sixth-rounder will have to wait to make his regular-season debut. Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins and Hassan Haskins are available to handle the Chargers' Week 1 backfield duties.

Likely to handle passing work
Vidal is expected to handle some of the third-down duties out of the Chargers' backfield this season, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: It makes all of the sense in the world, as both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards are prototypical between-the-tackles, early-down grinders. Vidal beat out Isaiah Spiller for a roster spot in Los Angeles, and only Hassan Haskins rounds out the depth chart. Haskins is another early-down thumper. Vidal is unlikely to come into any meaningful fantasy value unless one of Dobbins or Edwards gets hurt and opens up more playing time.

Leads team in rushing Saturday
Vidal had 11 carries for 49 yards with two receptions (three targets) for eight yards in Saturday's preseason tilt against the Rams.
Analysis: Vidal was deemed a healthy scratch in the Chargers' preseason opener last week, but the tailback was reportedly dealing with a minor injury leading up to the contest, Gavino Borquez of USA Today reports. The sixth-round selection appeared to be operating at full strength Saturday when he led his team in rushing yards in the absence of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards (coach's decision). Vidal was the second back to touch the football for the Chargers despite finishing as the top producer, as Jaret…read more

Kept out of preseason opener
Vidal, who participated in warmups, was held out of the team's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks on Saturday, Daniel Popper of The Athleticreports.
Analysis: It's not clear why the coaching staff decided to have Vidal and 2024 second-round pick Ladd McConkey (lower body) participate in pre-game warmups but then not have either player in uniform during the game. Given the Chargers' offensive struggles, particularly on the ground (50 yards on 15 designed carries), it's entirely possible Vidal will see substantial playing time in the coming weeks, but it's also worth noting Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins were also held out of the preseason opener despite…read more

Not getting first-team work
Vidal has been working with backups in training camp while J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards have been receiving first-team reps, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It shouldn't really be a surprise that a rookie sixth-round pick isn't getting first-team reps when the team has two backs with NFL starting experience under the current offensive coordinator (Greg Roman, who held the same job in Baltimore from 2019 to 2022). The good news for Vidal is that he has a few viable paths to playing time, potentially aided by Dobbins' lengthy medical record (43 missed games in four seasons) and Edwards' history of minimal receiving contributions (30 catches in 69…read more
