Reverts to practice squad
Carlson reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Carlson went 3-for-3 on both field-goal attempts and extra-point tries during Sunday's win over the Cowboys, as he once again served as the team's kicker since Jake Moody (ankle) remains sidelined. Carlson should continue to serve as the 49ers' placekicker in a Week 10 matchup versus Tampa Bay following the Week 9 bye if Moody is unable to return.

Perfect for 12 points
Carlson went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-3 on extra-point tries in Sunday's 30-24 victory over Dallas.
Analysis: Carlson filled in at placekicker for the second week in a row and turned in his finest game as a pro. The sophomore kicker was perfect on all six of his attempts for an offense that moved the ball freely against Dallas. Carlson may lose his starting job when Jake Moody (ankle) returns from injury. With San Francisco entering its bye in Week 9, its probably safe to put Carlson back on the wire if you managed to benefit from Sunday's career performance.

Bumps up for Week 8 action
The 49ers elevated Carlson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, in preparation for him to start Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Carlson will get another chance to start for San Francisco due to Jake Moody (ankle) being ruled out for Week 8 and Matthew Wright (shoulder) on injured reserve. Carlson, a second-year pro, converted both of his field-goal tries Week 7 against the Chiefs, but he missed his lone extra-point attempt.

Moves back to practice squad
Carlson reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Carlson is getting a second chance in the NFL due to multiple injuries to kickers in San Francisco. While he netted both field-goal attempts (55 and 24 yards) during Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, he wasn't without his foibles, missing his only point-after try. With Matthew Wright (shoulder) on injured reserve and with head coach Kyle Shanahan telling Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News on Monday that Jake Moody (ankle) won't be available to return Week 8 against the Cowboys, Carlson again…read more

Kicks two FGs on Sunday
Carlson went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and missed his only point-after try in Sunday's 28-18 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: Carlson made his debut for the 49ers on Sunday and made kicks from 24 and 55 yards out. The former Packers placekicker missed his only PAT, and it was a so-so debut from a fantasy standpoint. If Jake Moody (ankle) is unable to suit up for Sunday's tilt against the Cowboys, Carlson would likely earn another start with San Francisco.

Elevated to active roster
Carlson was elevated to the active roster Saturday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: This was presumed with the injuries to both Jake Moody (ankle) and Matthew Wright (shoulder/back) in consecutive weeks. Carlson was one of the league's worst kickers during the 2023 regular season in terms of extra-point conversion (34 of 39), and he also missed six of his 13 field-goal attempts from 40-plus yards out for the Packers. It'll be interesting to see if the second-year kicker can correct those issues with his second lease on life in the NFL.

To be elevated Saturday
The 49ers are expected to elevate Carlson from the practice squad Saturday in advance of Sunday's contest against the Chiefs, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis: San Francisco lost Jake Moody to a right high-ankle sprain Week 5 and Matthew Wright to shoulder and back injuries Week 6. The former is in line to miss about one month, while the latter is slated to be placed on injured reserve Saturday, setting up Carlson to be the team's placekicker Sunday and likely a few more contests after that. A sixth-round pick of the Packers in 2023, Carlson got just one campaign as the regular kicker in Green Bay due to frequent misses (27-for-33 on FGAs, 34-for-39…read more

Joins Niners' practice squad
San Francisco signed Carlson to its practice squad Tuesday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Carlson was waived by the Packers prior to the beginning of the regular season after a shaky rookie year in 2023, but at least on paper, he might have a chance to see game action in 2024 anyway. If both Jake Moody (ankle) and Matthew Wright (shoulder) are unable to suit up Sunday, Carlson could be elevated from the practice squad to serve as San Francisco's starting kicker versus the Chiefs.

Cut loose by Packers
The Packers waived Carlson on Tuesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Carlson missed seven field-goal attempts and six extra-point tries in 19 games last season, including playoffs, failing to meet expectations after Green Bay took him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Packers have since brought in Greg Joseph and Alex Hale for competition, with Joseph now seemingly set to enter Week 1 as the team's placekicker. Carlson is unlikely to find a starting job elsewhere but could get a spot on a practice squad, possibly even back in Green Bay.

Perfect in opener
Carlson made two field goals and an extra point in Saturday's preseason opener against the Browns.
Analysis: Accuracy was an issue for Carlson in his rookie season but not Saturday, as he made field goals from 46 and 33 yards as well as his lone extra-point attempt. Carlson remains locked in a competition with Greg Joseph for Green Bay's kicker job, and although the latter has fared a bit better during training camp, Carlson still has the advantage of having been selected by Green Bay in the sixth round of the 2023 draft.

In danger of losing job?
Fellow kicker Greg Joseph has been more accurate than Carlson during open practices this summer, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Packers brought in veteran competition this offseason after Carlson, a 2023 sixth-round pick, missed seven field-goal attempts and six PATs in 19 games (including playoffs) during his rookie campaign. Joseph has made 29 of 31 kicks in practices open to reporters at training camp, while Carlson is 25-for-31. That said, Joseph was also far from spectacular last year, going 24-for-30 on field-goal attempts for the division-rival Vikings -- his third straight year missing at least five FGAs.

Errant end to rookie season
Carlson made two of three field-goal attempts and an extra point in Saturday's 24-21 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Carlson did not miss a kick over his first five games as a professional, but he misfired on six field-goal and five extra-point attempts before the regular season ended, and he tacked on one apiece during the playoffs, with his final miss proving particularly costly in a game Green Bay lost by three points. The Packers showed enough confidence in Carlson to draft him in the sixth round and hang onto him all season, but he will presumably face some sort of competition for his job leading up to…read more

Makes six of seven PAT tries
Carlson made six of the seven extra points he attempted in Sunday's 48-32 wild-card victory over the Cowboys.
Analysis: Carlson missed five extra-point tries during the regular season, and he misfired once again in Green Bay's playoff opener. Only one of the misses really proved consequential -- four of them plus Sunday's coming in games the Packers won -- but with the games only getting bigger moving forward, Green Bay will undoubtedly be looking for perfection the rest of the way.

Held in check by Bears
Carlson made one of two field-goal tries and both extra points he attempted in Sunday's 17-9 victory over the Bears.
Analysis: Carlson could have had a much better day had he not misfired on a 41-yard field goal and the Packers did not inadvertently run out the clock while in field-goal range at the end of the first half, which led to him winding up with his fewest points in a game since Week 12. He closes out the regular season tied for 20th among kickers with 115 points.

Notches nine points again
Carlson made two field goals and three of four extra-point tries in Sunday's 33-10 victory over the Vikings.
Analysis: Carlson -- in terms of both opportunities and successes -- matched his Week 16 line in Sunday's contest, with the exception being neither of his field goals came from more than 37 yards out. He missed an extra point for the fifth time in his rookie season, but he did record at least nine points for the fourth time in five chances. He and the Packers will close out the regular season versus a Bears team he put eight points on the board against in Week 1.

Productive in victory
Carlson made two field goals and three of four extra-point tries in Sunday's 33-30 victory over the Panthers.
Analysis: Carlson was not perfect in Week 16, but he did put at least eight points on the board for the fourth straight game. He will attempt to extend that streak against a Vikings team that has been inconsistent against kickers in recent weeks but limited Carlson to just four points in Week 8.

Perfect in defeat
Carlson made two field goals and two extra points in Sunday's 34-20 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Carlson did not score more than eight points in any of his first 11 appearances, but he has now put up at least that many in three straight games. He will have his work cut out for him to extend the streak, as Green Bay's next opponent -- Carolina -- ceded only two field-goal attempts and one made field goal over its last four contests.

Tallies career-best 10 points
Carlson made three of four field goal attempts and an extra point in Monday's 24-22 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Carlson's missed field goal in the fourth quarter ultimately proved impactful in a game the Packers lost by two points, but on the positive side, he made three field goals and scored 10 points, both for the first time as a professional. Carlson put 19 points on the board over the last two weeks after averaging 5.9 points per contest prior to that, but he will have his work cut out for him in Week 15, as he and the Packers take on a Buccaneers team that ceded just four field goal attempts and…read more

Comes up clutch in win
Carlson made two field goals and three extra points in Sunday's 27-19 victory over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Carlson had missed a kick of some variety in four straight appearances entering Sunday's contest, but he was true on all his attempts in Week 13, including field goals from 40 and 48 yards that gave the Packers successive five- and eight-point leads late in the fourth quarter. The Packers stuck by Carslon through his rough patch, and they figure to do the same rest of the way.

Another so-so showing
Carlson made one of two field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point tries in Thursday's 29-22 victory over the Lions.
Analysis: Carlson matched his Week 11 marks in terms of makes and attempts, though he did hit a field goal from beyond 40 yards this time around. As Green Bay's playoff chances rise, the odds they look at another kicker do as well. However, there has still been no indication they are considering a change. Regardless, fantasy players shouldn't expect much scoring from Carlson in Week 13, as Green Bay will take on a Kansas City team that limits opposing kickers as well as anyone.

Kicking woes continue
Carlson made one of two field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point tries in Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Chargers.
Analysis: The rookie did not miss a kick over his first five games in the NFL, but he has now missed at least one attempt in four of five appearances. There has been no indication that Green Bay is considering changing kickers, but those who still have Carlson on their fantasy teams may want to, particularly with the Packers facing two teams -- the Lions and Chiefs -- in the next two weeks that have proven adept at limiting kicker production.

Tacks on two field goals
Carlson made two field goals and one of two extra-point attempts in Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Carlson -- as a result of a block -- did not convert a PAT try for the first time as a professional, but he did make multiple field goals for the fourth time in six games. Although he is putting three points on the board more frequently, he is not giving fantasy players that extra boost, as he has not made an attempt from longer than 37 yards since late September.

Ties season high in points
Carlson made two of three field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-3 victory over the Rams.
Analysis: The eight points Carlson put on the board tied his season high and were the most he has recorded since Week 1. He could have a few scoring opportunities again in Week 10 facing a Pittsburgh team that has allowed opposing kickers to attempt at least three field goals six times in eight games this season. However, he will head into that contest ranked 30th among placekickers with 48 points.

Opportunities remain minimal
Carlson made a 30-yard field goal and an extra point in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Carlson made both kicks he attempted in Week 8, but as has been the case since Week 3, his opportunities to put points on the board were minimal. He will at least have the matchup on his side in Week 9, as the Packers face a Rams team that has been friendly to opposing kickers this season.

Misfires for first time
Carlson made one of two field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Broncos.
Analysis: Carlson began his professional career by making seven straight field-goal attempts, but that streak came to an end Sunday, as he missed a 43-yard try late in the first half. He did make a shorter attempt later in the game and remains perfect on his 12 extra-point attempts. Carlson's success rate remains viable, but he is averaging only six points per game through six appearances.

Remains perfect on season
Carlson made two field goals and an extra point in Monday's 17-13 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: Carlson made two field goals for the second week in a row and is now a perfect 7-of-7 on field goals and 10-of-10 on extra points five games into his rookie season. While accuracy has not been an issue for Carlson, opportunity has been, and he has not put more than seven points on the scoreboard since recording eight points in Week 1.

Hits two field goals for first time
Carlson made a 34-yard field goal and a 50-yard field goal in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Lions.
Analysis: Carlson both got up and made two field goals for the first time as a professional, but the Packers attempted two-point conversions on both touchdowns they scored, so he wound up with only the two opportunities to put points on the board. Carlson is a perfect four games into his professional career, but he also isn't seeing as many scoring chances as other kickers around the league.

Makes game-sealing kick
Carlson made a 38-yard field goal and an extra point in Sunday's 18-17 victory over the Saints.
Analysis: Carlson only had a couple opportunities to put points on the board in Week 3, but his field goal early in the fourth quarter and his extra point late in the same stanza bookended an 18-0 scoring run that gave the Packers the win. Carlson remains perfect three games into his rookie season, but he has yet to make -- or even attempt -- more than one field goal in a game.

Logs six points in loss
Carlson made a 33-yard field goal and all three extra points he attempted in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Carlson fell a bit short of his Week 1 point total, both in the box score and in fantasy lineups, but he could have topped those marks had a penalty on Green Bay's opening drive not caused head coach Matt LaFleur to pass on a 56-yard field-goal attempt in favor of a punt. Carlson -- despite nailing a 52-yarder in Week 1 -- seemingly still has some trust to gain beyond 50 yards, but that should come with time, and he remains perfect two games into his rookie season.

Perfect in debut
Carlson made a 52-yard field goal and all five extra points he attempted in Sunday's 38-20 victory over the Bears.
Analysis: It didn't take Carlson long to reward the faith the Packers placed in him after selecting him the sixth round of this year's draft, as he drilled the first field-goal attempt of his career right before halftime and was true on every kick he got up. It's of course early in the season, and it remains to be seen what type of consistency both Carlson and Green Bay's offense will develop. However, if both come close to what they showed in Week 1, the rookie could provide more value in fantasy…read more

Ends preseason on high note
Carlson made two field goals and one of the two extra points he attempted in Saturday's 19-15 preseason victory over the Seahawks.
Analysis: Carlson's misfires have frequently been focused on since the Packers selected him back in April, but Saturday's miss was blocked and largely out of his control. On the positive side, Carlson was good on a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 57-yarder just before halftime. He ends the exhibition season on a high note and is locked in as Green Bay's kicker for its Week 1 matchup against the Bears.

Perfect in second exhibition game
Carlson made a 52-yard field goal and both extra points he attempted in Saturday's 21-17 preseason loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Carlson missed a couple extra points in Green Bay's exhibition opener, but he bounced back in fine fashion, making every kick he attempted Saturday -- including a field goal from beyond 50 yards. The Packers have stood by Carlson despite some accuracy issues during training camp, and barring a rough night in the preseason finale, the rookie is set to open the regular season as the team's kicker.

Shaky in exhibition opener
Carlson made a 45-yard field goal and three of five extra-point attempts in Friday's 36-19 preseason victory over the Bengals.
Analysis: The rookie was true on his first four kicks as a professional, but he also misfired on his final two extra-point attempts of the evening, which is cause for at least some concern. As a sixth-round draft pick and the only kicker on the roster, Carlson remains the favorite to open the season as Green Bay's kicker. However, he could get some competition for the job, and one way or another the Packers will be looking for better results when they face the Patriots in their second exhibition game.
